Chapter 11

Daisy charged toward Rexx, firing the gun repeatedly. She had to kill him. She couldn’t trust him. He was trying to trap her.

The first bullet had sliced through his arm. She’d been aiming for his heart. Rage drove her on as she slammed into her enormous alien captor.

His huge, muscled arms wrapped around her, and he squeezed hard, making her ribs protest.

“Stop,” he breathed into her ear. “You don’t want to do this.”

“I do. I want you dead. I have to be free.” Conflicting thoughts slammed into her. She shouldn’t be here. But where the hell should she be?

Two words popped into her head. Her owners. She should be with those aliens who had created her. Yes, that was it. And this infuriating Apexian had nothing to do with her. The sooner she killed him, the better. But damn, he was so strong. It felt like he was about to break her in two.

Daisy kicked his leg, but he didn’t react as the flat of her foot slammed into him. “Let me go.”

“Not a chance. Not while you want to kill me. Sorry, but I have to do this.” He pulled restraints from the locker and slapped them around her wrists.

She screamed her rage as he released her, then threw herself at him, head-butting his chest. She kept hitting him until she felt like she might puke.

He took every one of her blows.

If Daisy couldn’t see the distress on his face, she’d have no idea he was in pain. This alien was a freak. He deserved to die. And he would. The second she got these restraints off, he’d lose his life.

“Incoming message,” the ship’s computer said.

Daisy snarled. “Now you’re in trouble.”

Rexx slid her a glare. “Computer, relay the message.”

“To the inhabitants of the shuttle. Come out and bring our experiment with you.”

A little of the fire inside Daisy faded, and an old familiar fear tugged at her stomach. “They’re talking about me. I’m their experiment. I knew it.”

Rexx’s growl fired a whole mix of confusing feelings through her.

Daisy took a step toward the door but then froze. What was she doing? Who did she trust? Her brain felt like it was on fire.

She let out a low moan, and Rexx was by her side instantly.

“Don’t, Rexx. I don’t know what I’m doing. I just tried to kill you. I should leave. The Gente only want me. They’ll take me and leave you alone.”

“Yeah, that’s never going to happen. You’re not going out there on your own to deal with twelve asshole Gente. They called you a damned experiment. They’re using you.”

Daisy sagged against him, her strength draining away. Everything felt wrong, distorted, and terrifying. She didn’t know if she wanted to kill Rexx or kiss him. For now, she was just glad he was with her.

A stinging pain on her palm brought Daisy to her senses, and she jerked back from Rexx. “Hey! What the hell did you do?”

He stood in front of her, a small, sharp blade in his hand.
